In 1990 Grandmaster John Pellegrini officially named his style of Hapkido "Combat Hapkido". Combat Hapkido is a versatile and comprehensive discipline of self defense that includes an extensive variety of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, grappling and weapon disarming techniques. Combat Hapkido has several additional components to complement and enhance the system such as a complete program of Ground Grappling, Trapping techniques and the use of selected weapons. The results is a practical, realistic Self Defense System. The concepts are based on scientific principles of anatomy and biokinetics as well as psychology and strategy. It is suitable for men and women of all sizes because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential. The emphasis is on redirecting the assailant's force and controlling the attacker with minimum effort on your part.
Combat Hapkido is also ideal for those individuals(many women, busy professionals, law enforcement officers, etc) who do not have the time, desire or ability to commit themselves to the demanding study of traditional Martial Art. The essence of Combat Hapkido is pure Self Defense.
